Project Description
Securing the Botte delle Trezze beneath the Bacchiglione River
Built in the 19th century, the Botte delle Trezze siphon vault passes beneath the Bacchiglione and Brenta rivers as the outfall of the Adige-Bacchiglione Land Reclamation Consortium district covering a 490 sq km area.Work was required to stabilize the Bacchiglione after progressive erosion downstream from the siphon vault after the latter had sunk to a depth of around 3 meters. Operations to secure the vaults beneath the Bacchiglione River and protect the riverbed downstream also required:
- removing riverbank shrubbery from between the vaults and the pedestrian walkway along the river;
- cladding the riverbed with rubble at-3 and -3.5 m.s.l. level;
- replacing the riverbank’s exposed stone cladding with cliff rubble cladding to a height of 0.00 m a.s.l.;
- applying protective rubble cladding along the bank from 0.00 to +2.70 m a.s.l.
