Project Description
Design and construction of a wet anaerobic digestion plant for the organic fraction of municipal waste. Capable of processing 40 000 t/y of OFMSW (Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste) and 8 000 t/y of green waste, the plant combines an anaerobic biomass treatment phase with a subsequent composting phase to produce both biogas and high-quality compost to current regulations.
The plant consists of the following main macro-function sections:
- Mechanical OFMSW pre-treatment section;
- Anaerobic digestion and energy recovery section;
- Accelerated digested/structuring mix in aerated biocells (ACT phase) bioxidation section;
- Primary and secondary composted matrix barnyard maturation section (Curing phase)
- Product refining and final storage section.
The biogas produced by microbial decomposition during the wet fermentation of the pretreated waste fraction mixed with water has a high calorific value, which is then enhanced energetically in cogeneration plants to produce electricity and heat suitable for uses such as district heating.
