Project Description

Construction of a university building in Trieste

The building known as H3 is part of the university complex in Piazzale Europa and stands at the foot of Montefiascone Hill, a landscape feature that influenced its overall volumetric configuration recalling the pastini terraced vineyards typical of Trieste. With five floors above ground used for classrooms and student space, the building’s technical rooms stand on the roof. The ground floor features a 500-seat conference hall.

The building’s structural element consists of a reinforced concrete mesh of pillars and beams with a 6.00 × 12.00 m mesh in the central lecture hall. The curtain walls around the classrooms are in traditional clay blocks with aluminum door and window frames. The ventilated façade is made of lightweight, fiberglass-reinforced concrete panels clad with local stone.
